It Is quite amazing how and why people have the impulse to disfavor you in all kinds of settings – be it a Store, a Movie House, Church, School, sidewalk, a restaurant, anywhere!

Maybe it’s a ‘Social, verbal vitriolic attack because the personal ‘VVA’ remembers the number of times the person ‘has pushed his/her button recently’. Let’s call the ‘VVA’ another name as well, his real name, Lester Hale, the local high school football’s team hero who has shot them to the top of their local Football Division.

As in most cases of ‘Bullying’, the ‘Les’ knows how to sketch the points of where he levels our unsuspecting victim. The most frightening aspect of this ill-guided Teen-ager is that he understands exactly where the key is kept when not being used.

Lester has other problems this day. He watches the kids scratch their heads over the number of police present at the school, checking lockers and classrooms. He also catches the stares from members of the police unit. He is not intimidated by their presence.

He is however eager to know ‘why’ the police presence? The ‘deal’ he has cooked up doesn’t go until the bell rings at 3:15 PM.

Hey, I’m just backing to a few pages of history, and I’m not surprised to find we have had these kids with fouled brains throughout our history. The bastards who get them there have set the tone for their thoughts and their hatred…

Lester is having a marvelous day: he has gotten some real scary faces around him, those who wonder what is coming next from this unregistered member of the ‘KKK’ who has modified their programs of devastation. There is nothing good that will be coming from this group, other than dumbing-down talk and action…their lives, the way they were taught to live them. The kids had a chance, but did they have the positive images of ‘Purple Mountain Majesty’, ‘America the Beautiful’, and ‘A house not divided’ who sang the positive and the beautiful… No, the kids had their music and lyrics written for them by ‘lame duck’ nay-sayers and those shooting the dice for glory and bounty.

cheeksso much to people coming to America, and, somehow, ‘the melting pot’ became a ‘shooting arcade’, a place you can pick a good fight anywhere.

I cannot spend much time with our Governmental successes – certainly, not in the past couple of years, but it seems the young congress ‘modifiers’ – AOC and her group, are making America somewhat of a Pariah Playground…licking their cheeks and taking our money.

We are so close to becoming a country with all the evil forces of the past settling in for Armageddon.

I am not a ‘Doom-Sayer’ but, now an old man, I worry for my kids, grand-kids, and great-grand kids. We have the greatest motivators in our country coming forward, good and honest people. ‘Bite the bullets’ you need to bite, get rid of the ‘losers’, but, please, get our country running again. We have all you ‘red, white, and blue’ power-movers, and one can hope for here in the USA an emerging country and economy – with lots of gas, food stuffs, and some very large bottles of Champagne.

Come on, America, Let’s get going!

The Power Merchants

Just released this month, here is the first book review for

The Power Merchants

A Novel by BR Chitwood

Book Review by John Dolan (Wordsmith estraidinaire)

Rating: 5-Stars

by Diogenes

Author Billy Ray Chitwood is at his best in this tale of lawless adventure.
Most of Chitwood’s books that I’ve read so far deal with themes of crime, individual purpose and romance, but with ‘The Power Merchants’ there is a political message to the story that I don’t recall in his other works. But of course, this being a Chitwood novel, a healthy dollop of love interest is never far away. This time the main protagonist – advocate Bradley Bennett – finds himself falling for the platinum-blonde police officer Penny Sawyer amidst the surrounding chaos of corporate skulduggery, illicit sex, corruption in high places, the political elite, and rampaging hit men. (In a nod to the present day, Chitwood even throws in Covid-19 for good measure.)
Highly recommended for lovers of action novels with a large helping of romance.

GOOD READING!

Serpent Rock

Announcement of BR Chitwood’s New Novel:

“Serpent Rock

-A Science-Fiction battle between Good & Evil-

Three enterprising young men go deep-sea fishing on their beloved ‘Sea of Cortez’ and find more than their bright minds and Derring-do could ever imagine. Their lives will be altered by a higher wisdom of noble purpose and design, and they will be ever diligent and possessed by the knowledge from the sea.

Serpent Rock‘coming soon’ early January 2020 novel is somewhat of a departure for this author as his previous books have occupied themes of love, romance, mystery, suspense, memoir, many of which have their fiction coming from real life tragedy and truth.

“Serpent Rock” is essentially a book about ‘good and evil’, about life’s always present decisions of choice, about faith and love, about mortal destination when the body can no longer carry its burdens…about some of the issues we are encountering in today’s world

For the reader who likes action and excitement in their books, who wish to be on the edge of their seats in situational scenes, this book will not disappoint. For those who like Science-Fiction, this book will not disappoint. For those who want originality in their reading experience, Serpent Rock will not disappoint.

“Serpent Rock” is the author’s mind exploration of items on life’s endless menu of possibilities, an attempt to entertain his reading audience with a few fresh strokes of his pen.  Suffice it to say, the author had much fun in writing this novel and hopes that its content will amuse and, to some degree, enlighten the readers.

PROLOGUE

Jimminy, where do I begin. It’s so complex, this writing business, and I’m such a simple guy. The story is all going to sound so darned far-fetched, but, what the heck, might as well go from the start because if there was ever a story that needed to be told, it’s this story…darn betcha.

Conrad, Monroe, and I were deep sea fishing in Mexico, on the Sea of Cortez, far and away from the shoreline. With binoculars you could see the old ship wreckage that people in the village were apt to tell about to anyone who would listen. It was the kind of story you could embellish and put so many faces on it that it would become a story that could, and, would turn out to be a classic.

That’s not the story I’m about to write out for you in this old, stained notebook that’s been water-soaked, dried several times, lumpy from those fishing trips. It’s not because I can’t afford a new notebook, surely can, but this is the notebook on which this story has got to be written.

No, the story I’m about to write down is one you won’t believe, and I’m here to tell you, there won’t be any fault I’m finding with your disbelief. In fact, I’m going to come to some parts I don’t even believe myself. But, there’s a ‘but’, and, that is, this little tale happened for sure. You can drink to that, and my hope is you do some toasting with whatever kind of drinking you do to commemorate my telling you this mad, mad, ‘believe it or not’ yarn.

In the end, you would likely want some proof that any of what I’ll be writing down really happened. Well, know this up front, there is not going to be any proof, but you can check me ‘up and down’ from ‘sea to shining sea’, any sources you want, and you’re going to find I’m a man of my word – in this case, many words.

Guess what? It’s quite alright if your doubting the veracity of my tale leads you to ‘guffaw’ and curse me, because it is that kind of tale. Just take my word, this happened to a certainty what I’m about to write here. When I say write, I’m being literal, holding an old stubby pencil between my fingers and writing. I’m going to have some sore digits on my left hand, for sure. I’m one of them left-handed fellows who just took to my left-hand when I was a young fellow growing up.

I suspect it’s only fair that I tell you, people have accused me of being long-winded, but they caveat it by saying that I’m a truthful man and don’t know of me ever telling a lie. Now, sure, that pleases me. That long-winded stuff comes natural for me because of my family upbringing. My lovable old grandpappy was forever telling me tales about his life on the sea and I guess that got into my blood.

Except for a mild expletive here and there you won’t be finding much in the way of foul language and no porno-business. People will say I tell tall, long tales but they are for the most part clean tales. Those same people tell me that I alliterate an awful lot as well.

Anyway, I’ve got to get this story on paper, bad as the soiled paper is, because it’s an unbelievable yarn by anybody’s standard. It’s not for me to say it will be well-written, but I’m going to try very hard to make as few mistakes as I can. I’ve never been a grammar-hog, and I’m not going to start now. That’s what we students called our English teacher in high school – well, Sullivan (Sully, to you folks reading this) – where else would an English teacher be but in a school?

There I go, getting wrapped up in my own words, or, my own nonsense.

Well, it just came to me I’m being long-winded and should be getting to the story I’m here to tell you.

Well, hang on, ‘cause here we go…

Some Thoughts on “Dominique”

There’s a guy in our neighborhood that is ‘dumb’ as squat – whatever the hell that means! At least he is when it comes to the machinations of the internet! Now, don’t get me too far wrong. I’m really fond of the guy. He’s smart, just likely not as smart as he thinks he is, he’s got this genetic structure inside that brain of his that goes a bit haywire at times…

Okay, let me nip this quickly in the bud because this guy is super nice most of the time and does in fact write some great books. It is humble I, says me, the author of this post…

Now, don’t be splitting a gut laughing at me. You know how the blood pressure rises when you’re tormenting your wife and cat – substitute, dog(s) if it’s more fitting to your clan. Hell, I had to start this post some which way, so I decided I might as well soothe my nerves by writing in this sort of ‘free-wheeling’ style. Indeed, writing is my ‘forte’, not only am l one of the very best authors you will ever read, I’m also so focused and locked in when I’m writing, and, today, well, I really needed some ‘existential love’. Hey, that sounds like a really good title for a book. I just might have to write it.

Okay, here’s the itch I’m trying to scratch, the ‘rub’ for the day…well, for the last three days actually!

I just published a book entitled, Dominique, and it was so much fun to write. AND, I do believe it is one of the best books among my many happy labors – really close to “Mama’s Madness,” “Stranger Abduction,” “Hammer’s Holy Grail,” “The Pickett Factor,” well, yeah, I believe all my eighteen books are darned good, warts and all. With “Dominique,” I played ‘graphic designer’ and did my own book cover, didn’t like it, and, for the past three days have been working my brain overtime changing book covers on that really good novel, Dominique. I’ve gone through three covers in the last three days, and I’m really expecting to hear some angry words from those good folks at Amazon about these ‘cover turnarounds’! But, good news, finally, I did come up with a cover I’m not changing. Funny thing, I liked all three except the first one into which I inserted my good – no, my excellent, prose!

So, although unlikely, some of my followers might find different book covers of Dominique running loose on Amazon – MY BAD! Apparently, like so many of my titles, I’m doing a lousy job in the marketing area, doggone it! I would welcome some sales and some reviews. I’ve got my marketing armor on this evening, just in case, but I just know you’re going to like my books. They are almost dainty and dignified like literary stuff I once read in college – almost, I say, but it surely won’t interfere with your enjoyment…I promise that!

Okay, I’ve had my say!

I hope you like my new cover for “Dominique,” but along with that I hope you buy it and leave book reviews.

No more begging for tonight!

It’s bedtime here in ‘Twilight’. Between cursing and my wife shaking her head at my madness, I’ve watched bits of news this evening I could have easily done without, but, by my reckoning, this orb we call earth will keep right on orbiting and I’ll keep right on tweeting, retweeting, and, yeah, writing and begging!

DOMINIQUE – A New Book

A NEW BOOK!

AGAIN!

Hell, the ink isn’t dry on the last one!

Are you some kind of nut?

Yeah, I just keep on keeping on!

Yep! That’s I – myself – me! Seems my writing chunk of brain still feels the need for the fingers to perform their tap-dancing on the keys, still thinking that maybe, just, maybe, this is the one that puts the hungry hillbilly out to pasture. Well, hope no one is waiting for me going out to pasture. Why? ‘Cause I still have ‘stuff’ to write, to get off my chest – mind, that is!

The reason I’m writing this post today is to introduce you to a fellow named Scott Mahlon who is a highly-intelligent man with a new job with Global Wizard Inc, and this handsome dude goes to this corp’s party function and falls in love with a most beautiful lady named, ‘Dominique’. Now, that’s right out of the chute!

Well, what happens next and on through this romantic thriller will knock your socks off, pardon the expression. It’s a book about the purity of love, about a ‘sex ring’ running loose in Texas, principally in the great metroplex of Dallas/Ft. Worth. No, that’s not the only thing running loose in Dallas/Ft. Worth…there’s a murder or two taking place as well…and, some doggone interesting characters the readers will love and/or hate.

Of course, I’m trying to get you revved up about ‘Dominique’. It’s a book that’s damned-well written – according to my own review, which I’m believing is fair and just. I’ll only say one last thing about the book, and it’s this: I had a lot of fun writing this ‘best seller’ (okay, a subliminal message can’t hurt!), and what I did was to blend several genres together to build this powerful mini-epic. It’s a book that will keep you turning pages, I’m betting the house on it! I’m hoping you will get on Amazon, KOBO, APPLE, TOLINO, and/or wherever you go to buy your books, and get your copy.

I’m sure hoping I get some reviews with this ‘puppy’, so help an old fool dream a few years longer and buy the book. I guarantee your reading enjoyment will be worth the pennies you spend.

Just to tease you a bit, here are seven paragraphs only from the beginning chapter one of ‘Dominique’:

Chapter One

The large gathering room was filled with people, and I was alone, feeling betrayed by my body language. Never good in large groups of people, a stimulant was needed to arouse my more amusing personality so I searched for the bar. It didn’t help my growing anxiety being a new hire and mixing for the first time with not only my Southwestern Regional Division but all the US regional divisions plus the International representatives.

By way of company introduction, Global Wizard, Inc is an international corporation responsible for some of the more popular communication platforms in the world. It is a behemoth in the world of ‘chit-chat’, and major corporations’ playground for setting operational standards and at times arcane digital systems. There are some government leaders in the world that fear the reach and scope of Global Wizard, Inc and its already dominance in the fast-paced internet sphere of ideas and operating systems.

I was not a ‘nerd’ in my kid-world by any mind-stretch, but the internet was definitely a fascination for me, and that led to my studies in higher education, ergo, preparing me for work in this far-reaching dynamic conglomerate.

Six bars were operating, one for each horizontal corner and one on each side of the room. I started for the first bar on the left side of the entrance and managed to literally bump into a group of three men and one refined-looking lady I remembered meeting in my first interview with Global Wizard, Inc. Luckily, no drinks were spilled, and the lady smiled sweetly and gave me a quick read, determining with her astute powers of observation my muted buffoonery.

“Ah, Scott Mahlon, don’t be uncomfortable…it is after all, very crowded in here. You met me as Agatha Lord, but you must promise to call me ‘Aggie’ as everyone else does.”

Aggie introduced me to the gentlemen in the group, and I uttered simply, “I’m sorry for the bump. Please forgive my new man jitters. I must fight my way to the bar and have some few emboldened moments, Aggie. You sound as though you understand my awkwardness.”

A few more taglines were enjoyed and they released me to the left corner bar. Twelve feet from the bar when the people seemed shorter than my six-feet height, I saw her, her golden tresses falling over her shoulders, her curvaceous body filling so nicely the glittering light blue evening gown. She turned and smiled just as I reached the bar, as though she somehow knew my eyes were locked onto her. Her glistening, perfect white teeth and sparkling green eyes held me momentarily hypnotized. She had to notice my bulging eyes and my hard swallow. She was the most beautiful creature my eyes ever beheld.

(Chapter One continues in the novel…)

Of course, I hope you like the cover as well as the written parts of the book.

The book, ‘Dominique’ will be published within a two-week period and will be available on Amazon only for $0.99 cents during the pre-pub period…which begins Monday, January 7, 2019.

The First 5-Star Review

THE FIRST 5-STAR REVIEW

FOR

“The Pickett Factor”

5.0 out of 5 stars: Billy Ray Chitwood does it again!

by Dr. Timothy Tays

November 4, 2018

Format: Kindle Edition

I’ve come to expect solid storytelling from Mr. Chitwood and was not disappointed in his most recent effort. In fact, I was delighted that he once again created characters I loved to hate, scary characters, and heroic characters as well. His plotting is always strong, but it’s his characters that bring his mysteries to life (e.g., “Zig” and “Ape” are especially compelling in this story, two bad guys I found myself rooting for.). So, yet another gritty pageturner from one of our best mystery novelists. Highly recomended for lovers of crime fiction.

“The Pickett Factor” – NEW NOVEL

Untitled design (9)

NEW NOVEL

The actual elements of this fictional novel got into my head, swirled around for days, nights, and weeks, finally rolled out my fingers onto the laptop keys. Despite the raw ugliness of the newspaper reports on these criminal activities, I simply needed to follow the ‘writer’s itch’ and pen this story. What was rather amazing to me was the ease at which I banged on those laptop keys, and, through the beta-period and the final drafts, it seemed to me an author-effort of which I could be proud…and you can win money on your bet that I am. At least, that’s the story I’m staying with. It’s my hope the readers will find their reading experiences as rewarding as it was my joy in writing it – notwithstanding the seriousness of the subject matter.

Please enjoy. AND, please leave a review. Thank you and good reading…

SYNOPSIS:

A novel inspired by true events but fictionalized in its narrative…

Some strange criminal elements are at work in the small town of Mackland, PA: a Mackland patrol officer is ambushed and murdered in 2013; a mother and common law wife goes missing in 2015; the missing woman’s father is killed in a suspicious hunting accident in 2016 -was he getting too close to some truths about his daughter’s disappearance? A mother and daughter are brutally murdered in 2014 – the mother’s & daughter’s throats slashed, then shot separately in their bedrooms (the daughter went to high school with the missing woman’s daughter); at least two drug gangs operate in the small town, brazenly attacking citizens and bragging about bigger crimes they’ve committed…there’s more, and the town has only 11,000 + population.

With my fictional account comes an ending. With the real cases still being diligently investigated, we will await the true findings.

For the ‘Mystery and Suspense’ reader, this is MUST READ! It’s that good!

Seldom does a book come to me in such a way as this book. It was all there in my head. Perhaps that’s because I’m so close to where the elements of the story took place, thirty minutes at the most. Yes, the location in the book is Pennsylvania because these are on-going cases, and I believe it wise to put the action somewhere else.

The same narrative prevails regardless of the state represented, that is, Pennsylvania is also familiar to me because I lived, worked, and went to college in Williamsport, PA – the college: Lycoming College – received my Bachelor of Arts there, carrying away some fond memories as I jouneyed west to California, then, Arizona.

While in College, my ‘Criminology Class’ visited several penal institutions, one of those dark and gloomy places was USP Lewisburg, referenced in the book, a prison that holds the worst of the worst criminals. I mention my Pennsylvania personal period because of those family, work, and college memories were vibrant and alive while writing this book, and the creation of a small town was easy for me to transmit narratively.

“The Pickett Factor” is truly inspired by crimes in a small town that shocks its citizens and those that are nearby: in 2013, a police officer was ambushed and murdered on his way home from a work shift; in 2014, a mother and daughter were brutally murdered in their bedrooms, throats slashed and shot; in 2015, a mother of four children went missing and has not been found to this day; the daughter murdered in 2015 went to high school with the missing woman’s daughter; in 2016, the father of that missing mother was mysteriously killed in a hunting accident; Drug gangs sell their wares on the streets of this small town, attacking citizens on their own property…and, there’s more.

As the reader can discern there is plenty of elements for several books. I have written “The Pickett Factor” as news flashes come in about these open cases, my mind swirling with images and words. My work is of course fiction, piggy-backing off these obscene and true crimes. My book has a fictional ending. The true cases’ denouement is yet to be written.

Please enjoy “The Pickett Factor” and leave a review if you would be so kind. Reviews as authors know are our lifeblood.
