-River, Keep on Flowing-
I look out over the valley
From atop this tall, tall Pine
And I can see the river flowing
Over this land of mine.
There, on the bank of the river,
Sits a love that I once knew,
Her hair aglow in the sunlight,
Her eyes lost in sky of blue.
River, keep on flowing
River, flow for me
River, ease my heartaches,
And take my misery.
*
Where does she go at twilight?
The love that I once knew…
Does she go in search of tomorrow
In the arms of someone new?
*
River, keep on flowing
Over forgotten ground,
River, keep on flowing
Let my peace be found.
River, keep on flowing
River, flow for me
River, take my heartaches
Relieve my misery.

I'm a young man in an old man's body, trying to catch up to myself, trying to find pieces of me I left back in a disconnected youth and the early years of manhood. I'm a stereotype of many in my generation who can play the 'blame game', yell 'foul', and 'let's start over'. But, we are what we are, the sum of all the scary kid-emotions we experienced, the gin mills and piano bars that became our sandboxes of pleasure - lotus eaters of the best (or, worst) kind, the love affairs that did not quite settle us down, the sad poetry and songs written in bars and motels along the way... A Dreamer! A Wanderlust! The world needs such fools as we to write our books, our poetry, our songs, to offset the madness that plagues the soul.
I've written fourteen books, over three hundred blog posts, in search of those pieces left somewhere in many parts of the globe. You can preview my books on the next page. There's even a Blog page...all my posts are not showing on this recently created blog page, but, if you want to read more, go to my official blog site and check out the archives: http://www.thefinalcurtain1

Indeed! Know any resale stores that carry the Wells’ “Time Machine?” – I’m thinking, we can take a spin, Johnny-Boy! You up to it? ♥

That’s wonderful, Miriam. Saw a man on TV who fought on Guadacanal in WW2 – he looked so much younger than his years and spoke with the clarity of a young man… Me: more books to write, so I stay the course… ‘Regrets, I have a few, but then again, too few to mention’ – a “My Way” song-line. Wishing you well…

Lovely as a poem, but given your rich baritone voice … I think you have a hit on your hands, Billy Ray.

I have poems from long ago that have the same air of sadness and wondering of where (time/a person/a place) went. This song is …. timeless and well done.
